If you’re thinking of either buying the hotly anticipated new iPhone 5 or simply upgrading your current phone to Apple’s new operating system, iOS6, you may want to (briefly) think again.

While the new operating system features a bevy of super-cool bells and whistles, such as a Passbook where you can digitally store everything from movie and plane tickets to coupons, it may also come with a big – and freaky – security risk.

According to MyCE, iOS6 apparently has a major security flaw, discovered by Dutch researchers, which could allow hackers to steal images, videos and information from iPhone users’ address books. Plus, it’s not just the upgrade-happy who might be in trouble; the hack could also work on the older operating system, iOS5.1.1. Users’ Internet browsing history might also be susceptible.

While the security breach isn’t getting a whole lot of attention, especially with all the splash the new iPhone is making, it is worth considering if you’re looking to take the plunge and either upgrade or get the whole new phone. Security is a serious consideration, and knowing that bad guys might be able to access important, private information is not exactly soothing.

What do you think? Are the security concerns enough to make you pass up the new OS, or are you willing to take the risk? Let us know in the comments!
